Watch Videos About Staying Sober, Preventing Relapse, Emotional Sobriety, and Long-Term Recovery
I’ve been sober since February 8, 1999, and these videos share some of what I’ve learned along the way. They cover getting sober, staying sober, admitting powerlessness, emotional sobriety, relationships, resentment, fear, expectations, and the everyday challenges of living life without alcohol.
I don’t have all the answers, and I’m not here to tell anyone how they have to recover. I simply share my own experiences, the lessons I’ve learned, and the things that continue to help me stay sober and grow in recovery.
If you’re not sure where to begin, start with the videos below and find something that speaks to where you are today.

The Truth About Your Social Life After Quitting Alcohol
Navigating parties during your sobriety journey is possible. Learn five practical safeguards to protect your peace at any event.
Many people fear that their social life is over when they choose …to stop drinking. I used to feel the same way, but I have found that you can enjoy gatherings without compromising your alcohol recovery. The key is preparation and having clear boundaries before you walk through the door.
These five rules help you maintain your status in high-pressure environments, from managing your own drinks to knowing when to leave early. Whether you are early in your addiction recovery or have years of practice, these strategies help you maintain control. Prioritizing your well-being allows you to be present and authentic, ensuring that being sober remains a positive choice rather than a limitation.

Stop Telling People You're Sober – We've Burned That Trust
People were so tired of hearing “I’m sober” coming out of my mouth. Try staying sober with telling them and having the expectation of them being let down by …another empty promise. Letting your feet do the talking from now on. That’s the only thing that will change their minds, not your words.

Why Your Body Screams for Alcohol
Alcohol cravings can feel physical in early sobriety. When alcohol leaves your system, your body can react to not getting something it has become accustomed to—and that physical reaction can …make you feel like you need another drink.
In this Short, I explain what alcohol cravings and withdrawal felt like to me and why I learned that the physical craving was different from the mental obsession that could continue afterward.

Videos About Staying Sober Long Term
Before I Judge Someone Else in Sobriety, I Do This
When I’m angry about something another person did, I need to look at myself before I judge them.
I’ve cut people off in traffic. I’ve taken too long in a checkout …line. I’ve missed deadlines at work. I’ve forgotten things my wife asked me to do. Many of the things I get angry at other people for are things I’ve done myself.
That kind of self-inventory helps me change my thinking instead of staying focused on what someone else did wrong.
For me, that’s part of protecting my emotional sobriety.

One Angry Moment Can Ruin My Whole Day in Sobriety
One angry moment can turn into something much bigger if I carry that disturbance with me.
I can get angry at one person, take that anger somewhere else, disturb someone else, …and create a snowball effect. If I want to stop it, I have to recognize what I’m feeling and what’s happening in my own thinking.
For me, catching that snowball before it grows is part of protecting my emotional sobriety.

Why Other People Make Me Angry in Sobriety
Anger can steal my emotional sobriety when I let my expectations of other people control my peace.
I’ve learned that other people don’t steal my serenity — my expectations of them …do. When I expect people to act the way I think they should, I get angry, carry that disturbance with me, and eventually bring it into other parts of my life.
I can’t control other people. I can work on my expectations and my own thinking.

Grace Is Something I Practice in Sobriety
Giving someone grace sounds simple. Practicing it when I’m angry or disturbed is something different.
I have to recognize what’s happening inside me, remember that I’m not perfect either, and consider …that the other person may be doing the best they can today.
For me, grace is a discipline I practice to keep anger and unrealistic expectations from disturbing my emotional sobriety.

My Expectations Were Stealing My Serenity
Other people don’t steal my serenity. My expectations of them can.
I don’t need to lower my expectations of everyone around me. I need to have reasonable expectations and remember that …I’m imperfect too. I’ve missed deadlines, forgotten things, cut people off, and fallen short just like the people I sometimes judge.
For me, recognizing when my expectations are disturbing my peace is part of protecting my emotional sobriety.

I Was Given Grace in Sobriety. Can I Give It Too?
I’ve done things in my drinking past that I’m not proud of, and people have given me grace for those things.
That matters when I find myself getting angry at someone …else. If I can ask whether that person is doing the best they can right now, their actions have less control over my emotions.
For me, giving other people the grace I’ve been given is part of protecting my emotional sobriety.
